As we celebrate 70 years of ministry in the United States and 50 years in Canada, we have focused a lot on the legacy of Village Missions. Through the work of Village Missionaries and country churches, the gospel has been heard by hundreds of thousands around the United States, Canada and the world.
The Need for Contenders Discipleship Initiative
Today, the need is as great as it has ever been. Country churches continue to contact us asking for Village Missionary leadership. We realized that if this legacy was going to continue for years to come, we needed to find more missionaries to take up the call of rural ministry.
That is why we partnered with former Village Missionary Ron Sallee (now CDI Director) to begin the Contenders Discipleship Initiative. This six-course bible program was designed to give students the foundation they needed to go out and serve a church in need. Courses include:
- Bibliology and How to Study the Bible
- Christian Doctrine
- Old Testament
- New Testament
- Church History
- Evangelism, Teaching and Preaching
We also partner with Village Missionaries and other pastors to mentor students as they go through the program, giving students one-on-one training they can’t find in traditional education.
The Impact of Contenders Discipleship Initiative
We are confident that the CDI will play a key role in training the next generation of Village Missionaries. Yet, we are seeing an even larger impact than we expected. Many individuals and churches, with no ties to Village Missions, are enrolling in the CDI and sharing remarkable stories of spiritual growth in their lives!
We have even heard stories of people coming to salvation through the gospel shared in the Contenders Discipleship Initiative.
It’s fun to look back at how God has used Village Missions over the past decades, but it’s also a joy to look forward to the impact CDI will have on lives across rural North America.
Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing several stories of how CDI is impacting lives today! Read the stories by clicking the link below, and check back for monthly additions.
