October 9: Larry & Kathy Shetenhelm, Jennings, MI
This small village in the north-central portion of lower Michigan is a scenic area of forests, lakes, streams, rolling hills, and Christmas tree & dairy farms. With an abundance of water and state/federal land, hunting, fishing, and trail riding are popular activities. Jennings was once a prosperous lumbering town, boasting two sawmills, a shingle mill, a chemical plant, and a hardwood flooring mill. Population exceeded 2,000 in the early 1900s; today it’s about 125. Employment includes a few smaller factories, jobs in Cadillac, producing parts for the auto industry, tourism, and Christmas tree production. Over 2 million Christmas trees are shipped every year from the area, yet unemployment remains above the state & national averages. Many individuals and families are in great need. Addictions are common in most families. God’s love, grace, and mercy are real and we are seeing some marvelous changes in the community and in the lives of people. Please pray for the Wednesday after-school lunch/Awana ministry. Pray for needed leaders to reach the youth in our area. Pray for the funds needed for the new building. Pray for men to step up in leadership roles in families and in the church. Pray for the people in Jennings, that the Spirit of God would use the Word of God and the people of God to reach the lost with the Good News. Pray for physical and emotional strength to keep on keeping on. People need the Lord!
