Have you ever wondered how long a church waits for Village Missions to send them a missionary family? The wait time differs from church to church, due to various factors involved.
West Hoosick, NY: A New Church receives Village Missionaries!
For West Hoosick Baptist Church in Buskirk, New York, a congregation of about 30 people, the news that they would soon be receiving a Village Missionary family after 3 years of waiting caused great joy!
Nestled in the hills of western New York, West Hoosick Baptist Church is the only evangelical church in the community, with a population of about 1,100.
New Village Missionaries Are Making a Difference
When new Village Missionaries JD & Katie Milton arrived in Buskirk this past August, they received a warm welcome from this faithful congregation who had waited for a pastor for so long.
While they were still unpacking their belongings in the parsonage, the Miltons jumped right into community involvement. Within days of their arrival, JD heard that the local Volunteer Fire Department needed new members. He attended his first meeting the following week and was sworn in a few weeks later!
“News of his eagerness to be involved quickly spread, and it has allowed us to build some trust within the community already,” says Katie.
Currently, one of their outreach efforts includes hosting a seasoned citizen luncheon once a month. In the October gathering, they had over 40 people attend, including a couple of recent widowers. JD & Katie see this as an opportunity to have people come into their church who normally would not attend on Sundays.
“We hope they will find more than just a good meal and fellowship, but a deeper hope that we have in Christ,” Katie continues.
Other Churches Are Waiting
Although they have only been here just a few months, JD & Katie are truly living out the philosophy of “Preach the Word, Love the People!”
The joy that a new church experiences when they finally receive their long-awaited Village Missionary family is incomparable. Not only does the congregation regain full-time spiritual leadership again, but a Gospel presence is restored to the entire community.
