One of our older ladies has been battling cancer for a number of years. Earlier this week, she was hospitalized with internal bleeding and the doctors discovered a very large, fast-growing tumor in her stomach. Given the state of her health, there’s not much more medical science can do. Later, she had to be transferred to the ICU. The next day, while she was still in ICU, I was able to visit and pray with her briefly. She tried to say something to me, but I couldn’t understand, partially because of my challenged hearing and partially because she was only able to speak in a very soft whisper. After three attempts, I put my ear right next to her mouth and heard her say “I really want to join the church”. It was a pretty moving moment! I made sure she understood that she was already a member of the Church universal because of her faith in Jesus. Then I went home and contacted our board members, who all agreed that her wish should be granted as soon as possible. The next day, I brought her a certificate of membership and presented it to her in the hospital. She had rallied a bit by that time, so she was able to express her gratitude to us and to the Lord. We’re not sure how much time she has here on Earth, but doctors say that it will probably only be a matter of a few weeks before she is “promoted to the head office”. Here is a woman who, in her last days, had such a strong desire to be associated with the people of Christ. Praise the Lord!
