Morton sits at the intersection of Highways 7, 12 and 508 in the Southern Cascade Mountains. Located near White Pass, and not too far from Mt. Rainier, this scenic setting is ideal for hiking, boating, fishing and a host of other outdoor activities, as well as snow play in the winter. The main jobs in the area are provided by mills and logging. The local lakes and trails attract much tourism in the summer months, so most local businesses operate on a ‘feast or famine’ model.
It is at least a 45-minute drive to “civilization,” so many people live here to “get away from it all;” this can make outreach tricky at times. We have our new building (2010) paid off and are now working on buying a parsonage. A woman in the church is wanting to downsize, and is willing to carry the contract with the church. Pray this will all go smoothly, and be taken care of by fall. We had a very successful first year of Contenders, and have seen an impressive change in those students who stuck with it for all three quarters…they are looking forward to putting their knowledge to work. Pray that we would have a greater impact in the community than ever before. Pray that we would be found faithful in all that we do.
