Ed & Clara Sulpice, Igo, CA

Lately, I’ve been thanking all of the firemen that I see for saving our church and house. Just now, Clara and I were riding up an elevator in Chico (where we are evacuated-1.5 hours from home) with an exhausted Fire Fighter. I thanked him for saving our house.

He shrugged wearily and said, “Thanks for the thought, but I doubt if it was me.”
We found out he was fighting the Carr Fire in Redding and told him we were from Igo.

“I just spent the night in Igo,” he said.
“Really!” Clara said. “We live next to the church in Igo.”
He grinned. “You live in the house next to the church?”
“Last night my crew was cleaning up and watching your property to protect it from the hot embers that are falling on the town.”

All of us laughed.
As he got off the elevator, I said, “Thank you for saving our house.”
He smiled and said, “You’re welcome.”
