Even in a small town, it’s hard to find time to visit everyone, and even harder to visit everyone multiple times. Over a year ago I had visited the home of a couple who seemed interested in coming to church, though (like others I sometimes visit) they didn’t come. While visiting this week, almost on a whim I stopped by again and saw the wife, who seemed to be choking back tears as she said she’d been “busy”. It turns out “busy” meant her husband had an infection and surgery in his neck that left him paralyzed from the neck down for the past year.
The visit reemphasized for me the desperate needs present in these communities. There are many like this couple who can feel so alone and forgotten. I’m so thankful that we have people in our church who come here, and I am excited to see what God will do to extend His reach through us to these people who are desperate for His love.
